Lilburn Calloway Tuck

April 17, 1929 — April 15, 2024

Lilburn Calloway Tuck, aka, "L.C.," "Uncle Doc," of Maryville, TN, age 94, passed peacefully from this earthly life on April 15, 2024, gone to his Heavenly Home to celebrate with Jesus and so many loved ones who have gone before him.

Doc was the first of eleven children born to Hubert and Agatha Tuck. They became a family of thirteen. With dad Hubert passing away at a relatively young age, Doc, as the oldest, was key in helping his mom raise his ten siblings. Oh, the stories he could tell of growing up with that huge family in the hills of Meadow!! But time marches on, and over the years, they all went their separate ways, marrying, living their own lives, but always maintaining the strong family-of-origin bond. Eventually, that original family of thirteen became two...the oldest (Doc) and the youngest (Mike). Now there is one. But the memories and the legacy will live on.

Doc was a quiet, strong, rock of a man. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War Era. He loved to speak of his military service and would tell all who cared to listen about his days of "driving for the Colonel." He later retired from Vulcan Materials after decades of service, starting at "rock" bottom and working his way up to supervisor of many, associated with rock quarries all over East TN. He was greatly respected by all who worked with and for him.

Known as "L.C.," he was a faithful member of First Baptist Church Friendsville, attending for many years whenever the doors were open. When he became unable to physically attend, he maintained that connection through the many loving friends he had made there over the years. Thank you, brothers and sisters in Christ, too many to try and name, for loving and supporting him to the end.

Doc was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Julia Beckner Tuck; his parents, Hubert & Agatha Tuck; and nine of his ten siblings: Jessie May Tuck Bottoms, Charles William Tuck, Sr., Mary Ruth Tuck Rose, Hubert Tuck, Jr., Colonel Joe Tuck, Jacob Tuck, Oscar Cecil Tuck, Lenoard Ray (Bud) Tuck, and Lucy Jane Tuck Smith.

He is survived by his baby brother, Samuel Mike Tuck and wife Jeanne, who lovingly cared for him in their home for the past five years. Also survived by many nieces and nephews, great and great-great nieces and nephews, and precious cousins. "Uncle Doc" to so many!!

We are very grateful for all the kindness and care offered to Doc over the years, especially the last few, by his amazing doctors and their staffs, all of East TN Medical and Blount Memorial Physicians Groups; by the 4th & 5th Floor Staffs of Blount Memorial Hospital; by Amedisys Home Health Care of Athens; by Amedisys Hospice Care of Sweetwater; and by Home Instead of Maryville, especially Kimberly Tolbert, who cared for Doc as if he were her own.

Family and friends will celebrate Doc's birthday and his life on Wednesday, April 17, at McCammon Ammons Click in Maryville, TN, with a receiving of friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.; immediately followed by his funeral service at 7:00 p.m., officiated by Doc's long-time pastor and friend, Scott Kidd. Family and friends are invited to gather on Thursday, April 18, 11:00 a.m. at Hickory Valley Cemetery, for a graveside service.
