Jerry L. Chevallier

November 11, 1935 — March 20, 2024

Mrs. Jerry L. Chevallier, age 88 of Maryville, Tennessee, passed away on Wednesday, March 20, 2024. Born in Kilgore, Texas and raised in Louisiana, she graduated from Louisiana College in 1957 where she was the first woman elected as student body president, the first woman from Louisiana College listed in the Who’s Who of American Colleges and was selected by the faculty as the best all-around student in the senior class. She was a professional teacher for many years, and together with her husband, the late Reverend R. Hershel Chevallier, led Baptist churches in Louisiana, North Carolina, and Tennessee, including Cumberland Baptist Church in Knoxville for 25 years. During those years she faithfully sang in the choir, taught young adults, and was integral to women’s groups who supported many external ministries. She also volunteered with various refugee resettlement organizations, taught English as a second language to new arrivals, and personally helped and befriended immigrant families. Later in life, she was a member of Monte Vista Baptist Church of Maryville and deeply involved in various ministries and organizations that support people in need, with an emphasis on women. Mrs. Chevallier was preceded in death by her parents, Cecil Lowery and Frances Lynn Cole Lowery, and her husband of 45 years, R. H. Chevallier. 


Survivors include daughter and son-in-law, Renee and Hamid Nasrollahi; son and daughter-in-law, Colonel (ret.) Jim and June Chevallier; grandchildren, Rameen and wife Amanda, Armon and wife Allison, Christina and husband Dios, and Victoria; great grandchildren, Theia, Zayla, and Caspian; brother, Dr. Cecil A. Lowery Jr. and wife Mary Ann; niece, Alecia and nephew Clayton. 


The funeral service will be at 2:00 PM on Saturday, April 6, 2024, at Monte Vista Baptist Church with Reverend Jerry Mantooth officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00 PM at the church. The private family burial will be at Grandview Cemetery at 3:00 PM.
